Tsavo National Park

Tsavo National Park is one of the largest and most famous national parks in Kenya, covering approximately 22,000 square kilometers (8,500 square miles). It is divided into two sections:

Tsavo East National Park

• Known for its vast open plains, red soil, and large herds of elephants that appear red due to dust bathing in the iron-rich soil.
• Features the Yatta Plateau, the world’s longest lava flow.

• Tsavo is famous for the “Man-Eaters of Tsavo,” a pair of lions that killed dozens of railway workers in 1898 during the construction of the Kenya-Uganda Railway.
